How to convert oven cooking instructions for an air fryer

If your recipe only gives oven instructions, you can usually adapt it for the air fryer with two simple changes:

  • Reduce the cooking temperature by around 20°C.

  • Reduce the cooking time by around 20%.

Start checking your food a few minutes before the converted cooking time is up. Air fryer size, model, how full the basket is and the size of the food can all affect the final cooking time.

Fan Oven to Air Fryer Conversion

If your recipe gives a fan oven temperature, you will generally need to reduce it again for the air fryer. For example, a recipe cooked at 180°C in a fan oven can usually be started at around 160°C in an air fryer.

Use the temperature chart above as your starting point and check the food towards the end of cooking rather than relying on the time alone.
